This trip is packed with bucket-list moments. You will visit the “Moonland” of Lamayuru, ride camels in the Nubra Valley sand dunes, and see the turquoise waters of Pangong Lake. A major highlight is the drive to Umling La, the highest motorable road in the world at 19,024 feet! We also stop in Hanle, the best place in India to see the Milky Way.
From the historic borders of Turtuk to the engineering wonder of the Atal Tunnel, every day offers something new. We travel in safe, powerful SUVs to ensure a comfortable ride over 10 massive mountain passes. Finally, we descend through the forests of Manali before heading back to Delhi. Welcome to Kashmir! After arriving in Srinagar, meet your team at the famous Dal Lake. We will drive you to Sonamarg, the "Meadow of Gold." In the evening, attend a short briefing about the road trip ahead. Enjoy a relaxing walk by the Sindh River before your first night in the mountains.
After breakfast, we begin the climb over the legendary Zoji La Pass. This road is the gateway to Ladakh and offers thrilling views. We descend into the Drass and Kargil valleys, stopping to admire the rugged scenery. We reach the peaceful village of Wakha by late afternoon.
Today we drive toward Leh, crossing Fotu La, the highest pass on this highway. We will stop at Lamayuru Monastery, famous for its "Moonland" soil that looks like the surface of the moon. Before reaching Leh, we visit Magnetic Hill, the Sangam river confluence, and the peaceful Gurudwara Pathar Sahib.
We head toward the famous Nubra Valley by crossing Khardung La, the gateway to the north. We’ll stop at the top for photos before visiting Diskit Monastery to see the giant Maitreya Buddha. In the evening, enjoy the white sand dunes of Hunder and ride the double-humped camels.
Today we drive to Turtuk, a beautiful village that was once part of Pakistan. It is famous for its apricot orchards and unique Balti culture. We will also visit Thang, the very last village on the Indo-Pak border, before returning to Hunder for the night.
We follow the scenic Shyok River route to reach the iconic Pangong Lake. This famous blue lake sits at 14,000 feet and changes colors throughout the day. Spend your evening watching the sunset over the water and enjoying the bright stars.
Get ready to make history! We drive to Umling La, the highest motorable road in the world. We will also pass through Demchok on the Indo-China border. We finish the day in Hanle, home to India’s best stargazing observatory and a peaceful monastery.
Heading back to Leh, we drive across the raw beauty of the Changthang plateau. We will stop at the Chumathang Hot Springs, which are famous for their medicinal water. The drive follows the Indus River, where you might even spot some local wildlife.
We leave Leh and climb Tanglang La, the world’s 12th highest pass. From there, we cruise across the Morey Plains, a 40 km stretch of perfectly flat road surrounded by mountains. We reach the high-altitude camp at Sarchu by evening.
Today we cross the beautiful Baralacha La Pass and see the crystal-clear waters of Suraj Tal lake. We then drive through the incredible Atal Tunnel, a 9 km engineering marvel that brings us into the green forests of Manali.
Enjoy a free morning in Manali to shop for souvenirs or relax in a local café. In the evening, we will board a comfortable Volvo bus for your overnight journey back to Delhi.
You will arrive in Delhi in the morning (usually between 9 AM and 10 AM). This marks the end of your epic Himalayan journey. Take home a heart full of memories and new friends!
