Welcome to Leh! After you land at the airport, we will take you to your hotel. Since you are at a high altitude (3,500 meters), you must rest all day to help your body adjust. Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. In the evening, our team will meet you to talk about the exciting trip ahead.
Today we drive about 100 km to see the famous sights around Leh. We will visit the historic Leh Palace and the Hall of Fame War Museum. You will also experience the "magic" of Magnetic Hill and see where two rivers meet at Sangam Point. We will end the day with a beautiful sunset at Shanti Stupa.
We start our drive to Nubra Valley by crossing Khardung La, one of the highest roads in the world! On the way, we will stop at Diskit Monastery to see the giant 108-foot Buddha statue. Once we reach Hunder, you can ride double-humped camels across the famous sand dunes.
After breakfast, we drive to Turtuk, a beautiful and remote village near the India-Pakistan border. You will see green apricot orchards and learn about the unique Balti culture. We will also visit Thang, the very last village before the border line. We return to Hunder in the evening to relax.
Today we take the scenic Shyok River route to the world-famous Pangong Lake. This high-altitude lake is known for its bright blue water that changes colors. You will arrive in the afternoon to enjoy the sunset by the water and a night of incredible stargazing.
Get ready for the biggest adventure of the trip! We drive to Umling La Pass, which is the highest motorable road on Earth. We will also pass through the historic village of Demchok near the Indo-China border. We finish the day in Hanle, a peaceful village famous for having the clearest night skies in India.
As we head back toward Leh, we will stop at Chumathang to see the natural hot springs. The drive through the Changthang region offers amazing mountain views with very few people around. Before reaching Leh, we will visit the grand Thiksey Monastery and the famous "3 Idiots" Rancho School.
Your Himalayan journey ends today. Depending on your flight time, we will drive you to the Leh airport. You will head home with wonderful memories and the pride of reaching the highest road in the world!
